May LEAFlet: Bike Tour Crunch Time!

Bike Tour Reward System, Not Just Fitness

Like your brain? Prove it by raising funds for this sick bucket!

Remember when it wasn’t cool to wear a helmet? Mom would make you take one with you and you’d rather let it hang off your handlebars then be caught wearing it? Sure as heck weren’t about to mess up your middle part with frosted tips!

Well if you could go back in time and hand out one of these bad-boy Giro helmets, Mom would’ve never had to lecture you… they are that cool.

Best part is, you get one of these when you raise $1000! That’s right! All bike tour registrants that raise $1000 get a 2017 Giro Foray helmet!

In Case You Missed It...

I believe they’re comparing different dabs of toothpaste. Colgate won.

Until the new season of Antiques Roadshow starts, the best program available on CBC is Canada 150, a documentary profiling 18 Canadians shaping Canada’s next 150 years. The April 16th episode featured our very own Executive Director, Crystal Phillips!

In case you missed it, you can check it out HERE (prepare tissues). Or, even better, convince your office to host a viewing party and Crystal herself will come in to speak! We had one at Axia Fibre Optic Internet on April 19th and more than 60 people showed up. What a great way to treat and inspire staff!

Branchy Beer is the Best Beer

The perfect beer for playing the best drinking game: “Drink A Beer”

Last Best Brewing and Distilling released the newest Branchy Brew! It’s a delicious whitbier with a hint of coriander! And here I thought corianders were only good for straining water from spaghetti.

Whatever it’s made of, it tastes great and $1 from each beer goes straight to Branch Out! It’s the most delicious way to raise money for Branch Out.

Each month we highlight one of our grant recipients and the research they do. This month it’s UofS researcher Alice Liu. She received our Undergraduate Summer Studentship award in 2016!

Alice Liu: "My research has potential implications for investigating nutraceuticals and dietary interventions. The goal is to determine the relationship between oxidative stress and neurodegeneration, with a focus on damage to the myelin sheath."

In Layman: Alice is studying how eating certain fats can protect and restore the parts of the nerve that Multiple Sclerosis destroys.

Glial Gal of the Month: Anna Daniels

Anna (left) swears she didn’t eat one kernel while making all these bags!

It’s not a stretch to call Anna Daniels the Mats Sundin of event coordination. She’s Swedish, played hockey for years, and she won’t fight you unless she’s really, really mad.

She also ran Branch Out’s social media accounts for over a year! For all of you with Twitter accounts you haven’t updated since 2014, you know how much work that is. She also attends nearly every Branch Out event and even hosts her own, including this one pictured above.

And if you ever question her commitment to Axia, note that she personally bagged all 100 bags of popcorn and tied both colours of ribbon on them. Wow.

For being a volunteer that works as hard as when she’s in the middle of a bag skate, Anna Daniels is our Glial Gal of the Month!
