ATB Gran Fondo Highwood Pass names Branch Out Neurological Foundation charity of choice for 2016
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Calgary, Alberta, April 19, 2016 - The highly acclaimed ATB Gran Fondo Highwood Pass and Calgary-based Branch Out Neurological Foundation (“Branch Out”) are partnering up to invest in a world free from neurological disorders.
“We’re donating $5 from each registered rider at the July 9 ATB Gran Fondo Highwood Pass to the Branch Out and encouraging additional donations while we’re at it.” said TransRockies Events president Aaron McConnell. “Branch Out does important work and we hope to help get the word out about this great organization.”
A mutual interest in the pursuit of health and pushing boundaries brought the two groups together. The Branch Out funds top students and academics to engage in a new emerging field of research known as neuroCAM (neuroscience + complementary and alternative modalities).
“There are more than 600 diseases of the nervous system that affect nearly 20% of the world's population. Whether we’re talking about post concussion, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) or Alzheimer’s there’s a lot of work to do in understanding brain health, treatment and therapy.” explained Crystal Phillips, executive director and co-founder of the Branch Out Neurological Foundation.
Phillips helped kick off Branch Out after an episode with MS changed her life, altering the course of her career as a high performance speed skater. With sheer determination and commitment to a holistic recovery approach, her health has improved significantly. Much of her recovery was done by road biking, which bonds the two organizations.
“We want to support Branch Out to reach new heights. ATB Gran Fondo Highwood Pass moves through the highest pass in the Rocky Mountains and with road biking being a popular recovery sport, there is a strong symbolic and on the ground fit.” said McConnell.
To support Branch Out Neurological Foundation, register with TransRockies Events and ride this year’s ATB Gran Fondo Highwood Pass. The partners are adding a special twist to this year’s race start, with details announced closer to the event date.
